Charles Burchfield Project

We are the owners of a remarkable property that has been hidden away from the public eye for over 60 years. The two-story home and custom built art studio was that of the internationally known artist, Charles E. Burchfield. Life Magazine named him one of America’s 10 greatest painters of all time. He was known for his passionate watercolors of nature scenes and townscapes. This property is located in a suburb of Buffalo, New York and Burchfield created his art and raised his family here from 1925-1967.

The truly remarkable part of this property is that you can stand in the exact spots where Burchfield stood to paint his masterpieces. He used this property as his subject matter to paint a large amount of his work.  We were able to create a 90-page virtual tour of the exact real-life views he used to paint his scenes.  We are excited to release to the public that this may be the most painted home and property of any famous artist in the world.

The art studio is tucked in the rear of the property and currently contains a bathroom, kitchen and separate bedroom. The studio itself was visited by other artists, famous individuals and reporters from publications including the Smithsonian with a full interview available online. One of our ideas is to turn the home into housing for art graduate students and the studio into a modern/historical Airbnb. We are also working with the town of West Seneca to include this property in a historical campus in the near future.

A large museum known as the Burchfield Penney Art Center is located 10 miles from the home and it maintains the world’s largest collection of Burchfield’s work, as well as many other distinguished artists. Also, less than 100 feet away from the property is the Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center which is situated on 29 acres of nature trails and woods, wild and cultivated gardens, alongside the banks of the scenic Buffalo Creek. Since his home was privately owned and hidden away, it needs to be brought to the forefront and shared with the world. 15% of every sale goes towards this project. We would love to invite the nation to come aboard and take this journey through history with us as we renovate his sacred space and tell his story.
